It’s been about 5 months since I started playing poker. At my best, I was just a few dollars away from breaking even- I don’t think I’ve ever actually crossed that line though. At that point I started trying to move to the next level- from $1 Sit n Go’s to $3, $5, and $10 Sit n Go’s. I knew this was not a good idea based on my bankroll, but I thought that it would be ok.
Anyway, it wasn’t ok. The problem with playing above your bankroll is that you just can’t survive the bad beats- and boy did I get hammered. I lost pretty much everything and after a $25 account refill at PokerStars, I’m back to playing the $1 SnG’s and things have been slowly getting better. I place pretty regularly, almost everytime in fact. My favorites right now are the $0.10 360 player SnG, and the $1.20 9 or 18 player SnG’s.
One thing I’ve come to realize is that sometimes I’m just not in the zone and I don’t play well. I’ve gotten better at realizing when I’m not going to play properly and I only join Play Money games at that point. I’m sure it’s saved me quite a bit.
