Moving to Real Money?

I have yet to play online poker with real money. When I first started, I said, “I think that once I’ve placed in a tournament, or amassed over 1,000,000 in play money, then I’ll upgrade to real dollars.”
Well, I’ve placed in the top 7 a handful of times. These are sit & go tourneys though- not [...]

Definition: Gutshot

I’m still surprised by how many of these poker terms I’m clueless about.
Gutshot
A ‘gutshot’ draw in poker is an inside straight draw. For instance, if you have 2-3-4-6, you have a gutshot straight draw — any 5 will make your straight. Aka: Belly buster, inside straight draw, one-gapper. (c/o About.com)

Movin’ On Up

After my spectacular win at the 250 Play Money Sit & Go, I decided to try my luck at the bigger 2,000 Play Money Sit & Go.
I entered twice and placed 7th the second time. I’m feeling pretty good about my mad poker skillz right now.

Won My First Tournament!

I won my first tournament today! WooHoo! It was only a 90 player, 250 Play Money Tournament, but I totally WON!
I mentioned that these were pretty easy, but I still had failed to come in the #1 spot until earlier today. What gets me really excited is that I didn’t just get lucky- I played [...]

I have recently learned to despise this hand. When I get a KQ offsuit, I immediately feel like, “Hey, this could really turn into something.” But it never does. Ever.
There’s always an Ace, or a straight, or a flush, or a lower pair that some one else is holding (because I rarely hit even one pair)– well, [...]

I don’t know why it took me so long to discover the 250 Play Money Sit & Go tourneys at FullTiltPoker, but for beginning players they are totally awesome! They are running constantly and it’s not too hard to place.
The first time I played, I was doing pretty well but my connection was going up and down so [...]

Positions: Feb 24, 2008

I played a couple of freerolls tonight at Pokerstars and lost pretty bad. I’m not sure why I suck so much at those. Otherwise, my multiple tables strategy worked out relatively well.
PokerStars: $55,825 (+$19,195)
Full Tilt Poker: $6,893 (+$2,479)
PuzzlePirates: $2,470 (no change)

Playing Multiple Tables

I decided that I really benefit from playing multiple tables. One of my poker ‘demons’ is my lack of patience. When I sit at one table and get crappy hands for 30 minutes, I start going in on hands that I shouldn’t, and otherwise wouldn’t be going in on. On top of that, if I’m [...]
